Beyond Isabel Oli's physical beauty is a sensible young lady whose confidence and grace capture her real style.
Sure, Isabel Oli is pretty and slender—the unbeatable combination to becoming a true-blue supermodel. But beyond her physical beauty is a sensible young lady whose confidence and grace capture her real style. Text by KC M. Abalos. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
“Modeling and acting are almost the same. [In] modeling naman, you need to act, so I can choose. I really love both and until now nga eh nagmomodel pa rin ako,” Isabel answers when asked whether she prefers modeling over acting.

Having began her career as a commercial model, Isabel is still sought after in the world of fashion even after she’s been launched to soap opera stardom. Regardless of what character she portrays in her projects, Isabel sees to it that she maintains her fashion sense. Remember when she played Rosita in her last Sinenovela,
Maging Akin Ka Lamang? That villain was always at the height of fashion even when she was up to no good. And it’s no secret that for that particular show, Isabel decided to hire a personal stylist.
“Sa show na ‘yun nagstart tapos parang sabi ko, sige, sa lahat na lang ng shows [dapat may stylist ako]. Kasi for me it’s time na rin to change my look,” she says.
Changing times
One wonders why it became necessary for Isabel to change her look, when even way back as Richard Gutierrez’s naïve leading lady in
Sugo, she practically epitomized the lovely damsel in distress. Did she really need to revamp her style?

She explains, “Parang okay na ‘yung pretty-pretty or sweety-sweet [palagi]. Sabi ko, let’s stop that. I want a new look. And it works!”
It truly did work, especially if one looks at
Maging Akin’s ratings and the critical acclaim she received for her performance in the show. Isabel adds, too, that even though her stylist was around to help build Rosita’s look, she realized that it was essential for her to change her own personal style as well.
“Kasi dapat mas nagmamature na ‘yung look and dapat iba-iba ‘yung looks. [Pero] hindi ko kaya yun [so I got a stylist],” she shares. Isabel also says that she embraces how she’s grown since her first commercial and TV show. Ready to conquer bolder and more mature roles, she knows her look should also grow along with her thinking.
With her flair for reinvention and constantly being on the lookout for what’s in style, Isabel Oli is sure to keep audiences guessing what she’ll come up with next.
