A few weeks before Father's Day, GMANetwork.com had an exclusive interview with Sang'gre star Bianca Umali, asking her to share her favorite moment with her dad.
Bianca then revealed that she had very few memories of her father because she lost him at a young age, but she claimed that she was a daddy's girl back then.
“Not everyone might know but I lost my dad at an early age. I was 10. So I have very limited memories of my dad pero daddy's girl ako so I spent most of his last years with him talaga. Ako talaga 'yung buntot niya. I go with him to work, nagkakalikot ako ng motor with him. We would run together, everything. I did everything with my dad,” she recalled.
Asked about the life lesson she learned from her dad, she answered, “I would say siguro sa kabuuan, now that I'm older, na naaalala ko na kasama ko 'yung dad ko, the biggest lesson that I have learned is to always say I love you when you can, when you feel like it.”
“I don't know siguro kasi my observation sa generation natin ngayon or maybe even in the past, sometimes it's hard to say I love you, not because we don't want to but because it's too cheesy or we tend to get shy na, 'Okay lang kaya na sabihin ko?' But after losing both my mom and my dad, ngayon na matanda na ako, 'yun 'yung lesson ko in life - it's to say I love you regardless if it's a family member, a friend, or even a workmate, a colleague, or a co-actor, if you feel love for someone, express it,” she added.
The Kapuso actress admitted that she regrets not saying, “I love you,” to her dad before he passed away.
She said, “You won't know when the last time mo siyang makikita. You won't know until when you will see the person or you have the opportunity to spend time. Hindi 'yung dadating ka sa point na sana I could've said, 'I love you,' more because that's what happened to me.
“I mean I was young, and I think I was still in that process of discovering myself and I didn't really know how to express my feelings. The last words of my dad to me were, 'I love you darling.' and I was asleep, I was half awake, he came back from work, and then the next day he passed away so I wasn't able to say, 'I love you' back.”
It can be recalled that Bianca Umali lost her parents at a very young age. She lost her mom to cancer in 2005 when she was only five years old and her father died of a heart attack five years later.
