Basketball player-turned-politician James Jap returned to competitive basketball with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the PBA Governors' Cup after taking a brief hiatus to run for public office.
James, who currently serves as a councilor in San Juan City, scored 14 points in his first game since 2021.
In an interview after the game, James admitted that he felt like a rookie once again. He entered the PBA in 2004 when he was selected by the Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotshots (now Magnolia Chicken Timplado Hotshots).
He said, "Feeling ko rookie ako. 'Yung feeling na na-feel ko noong 2004 na kinakabahan, di ko alam kung kaya. I'm happy na winelcome ako nang maayos."

However, the Meralco Bolts spoiled James's return to the PBA, 105-87, behind K.J. McDaniels' 27 points.
Aside from being a professional basketball player and a councilor, James is also a father to his four children.
