The Philippine Senate formally recognized the nation's girl group BINI on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, commending their historic performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California last April 10 and 17.
The upper chamber unanimously adopted Senate Resolution No. 370, authored by Senator Bam Aquino, which honors the eight-member group for becoming the first Filipino act to grace the Coachella stage.
“For the first time, a Filipino group performed at one of the largest and most famous music festivals in the world. We can say this success is a reflection of Filipino talent and skill on the global stage,” remarked Senator Bam Aquino, the resolution's author, during his speech.
He continued, “BINI's success is a victory to be celebrated amidst the challenges and cries facing our country. During their performance at Coachella, they showcased our Filipino pride by incorporating traditional elements of 'Pantropiko' into their costumes, music, and choreography. The cherry on top was when BINI introduced themselves in their native languages.”
In a Facebook post, Senator Bam Aquino lauded the group's global breakthrough as a powerful showcase of Filipino culture and a significant victory for the nation's creative economy.
He also emphasized that BINI's international success is a win for the entire country, highlighting the immense power of the Philippine creative economy to provide pride and opportunity for Filipinos worldwide.
Senator Bam also took a moment to express his gratitude for the group's warm birthday wishes while extending advanced greetings to members Maloi and Sheena for their upcoming celebrations this May.
“Maraming salamat din sa kanilang birthday greetings, at advanced happy birthday kina BINI Maloi at BINI Sheena na parehong magdiriwang ng kanilang kaarawan ngayong May,” he expressed.
All members - Aiah, Colet, Maloi, Gwen, Stacey, Mikha, Jhoanna, and Sheena - were present at the Senate plenary to receive the recognition alongside ABS-CBN executive, Laurenti Dyogi.
The resolution highlights BINI's milestone performances on April 10 and 17, 2026, where they delivered a performance at the Mojave stage. Their performance featured global hits such as “Shagidi,” “Salamin,” “Salamin,” and “Karera.”
Beyond their time on stage, the members took the opportunity to catch performances by international icons like Justin Bieber and BLACKPINK's Lisa.
The group candidly shared that they were left star-struck by the sheer number of high-profile artists attending and performing at the festival.
