The Burias Island in Masbate is not a popular tourist destination, but Drew Arellano and the Biyahe Ni Drew team proved that there's much to discover about it.

From Manila, they flew to Naga and traveled for an hour to the Port of Pasacao. The boat travelled for around two hours to San Pascual, one of the two municipalities of Burias Island.

Biyahero tip #1: Go island hopping

The islands in the area are perfect for swimming, relaxing and and to go on a picnic. Drew suggested visiting a maximum of two islands per day to make the most of the experience. Islands are a 45-minute to one hour travel away from each other.

Biyahero tip #2: Visit the sand bar in Tinalisayan Island

A long sand bar awaits the visitor of Tinalisayan. The best time to go is during low tide which is usually at 8 to 9 a.m. The venue is perfect for wide shot pictures and snorkeling.

Biyahero tip #3: Try their coco sugar.

One of the most popular products in Burias is the coco sugar, a natural sweetener made of coconut nectar. They add it in kakanin dishes like nilupak na saba, among many others.

Biyahero tip #4: Visit the Espares house

There are over 8,000 balinsasayaws or edible-nest swiftlets. The number exponentially grew from only two birds in 1993 because of the care of the Espares family who uses the balinsasayaws's waste as fertilizer. They also serve birds nest soup to their guests.

Biyahero tip #5: Marvel at and care for nature.

The quiet and close-knit community of the Burias Island values nature and makes sure to take care of their natural resources. In fact, some of their tourist activities include planting trees and taking care of animals.
