Drew unveiled the hidden gems of Cateel through this must-try itinerary.

Drew Arellano and his fellow biyaheros visited Cateel, a second class municipality in Davao Oriental. Its people are known to be resilient as they rose above Typhoon Pablo that devastated parts of the Mindanaoan region in 2012.

Biyahe Ni Drew unveiled its hidden gems and discovered the charm and optimism of the people of Cateel through a must-try itinerary.

Biyahero tip #1: Visit the Typhoon Pablo Memorial Shine

The shrine shows a family whose father is trying to hold up the foundations of the home and a mother caring for the children. It is a reminder of the trials that the locals have endured and how they got to recover and rebuild.

Biyahero tip #2: Go to Aliwagwag Falls

The Aliwagwag Falls is one of the landmarks of Cateel and is known to be the longest cascading waterfalls in the Philippines. It stands 1110 feet above sea level and is called by others as a stairway to heaven because of 136 flights of waterfalls.

Biyahero tip #3: Try their banagan

If lobsters cost a fortune in Metro Manila, Davao Oriental offers them at an affordable price. A great bonus is that it is guaranteed fresh. An order ranges from 600 to 750 pesos.

Biyahero tip #4: Go to Mahoc Cove

Mahoc Cove is a popular hangout spot among locals because of its relaxing scenery. From October to April, waves become calm and the spot becomes perfect for swimming and surfing. Its fine sand makes it a favorite of locals and tourists alike.

Biyahero tip #5: Try their chili products

After Typhoon Pablo struck, farmers shifted from coconuts and rice to sili. The former takes almost half a year before harvest while sili grows fast. The plant could be sold as is or minced to fine powder which they call hot Pablo or dumang.
