Musical group Black Eyed Peas sat down for an interview with ET Canada to answer questions on the possibility of performing again with former member Fergie.
Fergie left the Black Eyed Peas in 2017 after being part of the group since 2002. The members have remained on good terms despite Fergie's departure, and when asked if they see a reunion happening with all four original members, the three remaining members shared their thoughts.
“Fergie's really happy doing what she's doing and that's what she chose to do,” said Will.i.am when asked about performing together again at the RBCxMusic Concert series at the RBC Canadian Open. “To be an awesome mom, and take care of Axl,” Will.i.am told ET Canada.
“So we had an amazing journey and rode with Fergie. Before we knew Fergie, we were a trio. And so Black Eyed Peas remains in the form that we started. But we wish Fergie the best,” he continued.
“But she's doing the best job and doing an amazing job at raising Axl as a single mom. I come from a single mom and single mom is a hard, hard job.”
Fergie is co-parenting her eight-year-old son Axl with ex-partner Josh Duhamel. The singer has focused on motherhood since leaving the Black Eyed Peas, and cited this as partly the reason for her taking a hiatus from the music industry.
Member Taboo also hyped up their guest vocalist, J.Rey Soul, who has been touring with Black Eyed Peas.
“And also to acknowledge our little sister that's been touring with us, J. Rey Soul,” he praised. “Can't sweep all the work that she's put in over the last couple of years.”
Meanwhile, the band has been promoting their ninth album Elevation, which features musicians Shakira, Daddy Yankee, and more.
Taboo shared, "We're fans, first and foremost. We've been blessed to work with many Latino artists. It's a blessing to learn and contribute."
Apl.de.Ap added, "We want to keep the vibrations alive, positive, and elevated."
Currently, Black Eyed Peas are on their Elevation World Tour.
