BLACKPINK's Lisa is taking over the music industry with her solo debut.

The K-pop idol held an online press conference right before the release of her first solo mini album Lalisa. During the conference, Lisa shared how surreal it was that she is finally making her highly-anticipated solo debut.

“I keep feeling nervous, and I still can't believe it,” said Lisa. "Even when I was practicing the choreography, I wasn't sure whether it was actually happening, but when I filmed the music video, it finally started to feel real.”

She continued, “I'm delighted to be able to show my first solo performance, and I hope that BLINKs [BLACKPINK's fans] will look kindly on it. Because this is my first solo album, and also because the title of the album is my name Lalisa, it holds a lot of meaning for me. Thank you so much to the BLINKs who waited for my solo debut for a long time. I worked hard to prepare.”

Lisa also explained why she picked out the name "Lalisa" as the title track and album name. “I wanted to show the coolest side of myself through [the album]. I wanted to show myself, Lalisa, exactly as I am, which is why I ended up using this title.”

She also described the vibe of the song which showcases her strength and confidence paired with fun choreography. “I think it's a song that can really show the strength of my name and my confident side. I hope that people will hear the song and think, 'Wow, this is it. This is something only Lisa can do.' The choreography is also easy to dance along to, so I hope that you will have fun dancing to it.”

The Thai singer also explained why she wanted her single to have elements of her heritage in it. The vibrant music video opens up with Lisa walking through a street with store signs written in Thai. “I wanted 'Lalisa' to have a Thai feel to it. The set and outfits also capture that Thai vibe well.”

BLACKPINK's music producer collaborated with Lisa to incorporate a Thai feel to her single. “After I said that I wanted to include a Thai vibe, Teddy arranged the song in a Thai style, and I was so touched,” she recalled. “I really liked the way it turned out. I also wore Thai clothing in the music video. I think the results came out really pretty.”

Known for her full bangs, Lisa wanted to show more of herself and decided to bare her forehead to show a new side of herself.

“I wanted to show a new side of myself, so I bared my forehead for the first time during my album jacket shoot. My fans have never seen me with my forehead bare before. Because I wanted to show something new, I made up my mind and finally bared my forehead,” she said.

Lisa also mentioned that her fellow BLACKPINK members had spent hours with her on her music video set to show support.

“Jennie and Rosé both showed great things [with their solo debuts], so I worked hard to try and show good things as well,” said Lisa. “All the other members came to my music video set to cheer me on, and they stayed with me until the wee hours of the morning. I felt so comforted by their presence.”

Always a crowd favorite for her strong stage presence, Lisa confessed she misses seeing her fans in person a lot. “It's been so long since I've seen BLINKs that I sometimes look up concert videos where I was together with the fans,” she revealed. “I'm also preparing fun content, so please wait for it.”

For now, her main goal is to make her fans happy with her solo debut. “Rather than focusing on rankings, I hope that people will see that Lisa has this side to her as well. If I can make BLINKs happy with my songs and performances, I'm satisfied.”

Lisa's solo mini album Lalisa was released on September 10 at 1:00 p.m. KST, and has garnered over 77 million views in less than 24 hours of its release. Lisa will be performing her debut single “Lalisa” for the first time on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on September 10 ET (September 11 KST). Check out her teasers for the album here!
