It was a fun yet emotional afternoon last Tuesday, December 17, when Apo Hiking Society member Boboy Garrovillo joined Mikee Quintos and Kuya Dudut on GTV's cooking talk show Lutong Bahay.
Aside from sharing delicious recipes, they also talked about Boboy's iconic group, Apo Hiking Society, which recently faced the loss and death of its member, Danny Javier, in 2022.
“Miss na miss namin talaga [si Danny],” said Boboy.
“Can you imagine, for 45 years, we've been performing together tapos siya 'yung spokesperson namin sa stage, [so] lahat ng banter namin sa stage, [...] nasa gitna siya,” he added. “Tapos nag-umpisa kami ni Jim last year [mag-concert], [kapag] tinatakbo namin 'yung mga spiels, nabubungi eh…”
In a separate statement, Boboy explained their dynamic as a group is so strong, that none of them could go solo.
“Kasama namin siya noong we were building the Apo Hiking Society to something greater than us… Kaya hindi kami nagso-solo, eh. Hindi kami puwedeng mag-solo, [dahil] ang lakas namin kapag magkakasama kami,” said Boboy.
To remember and honor Danny's life, the Apo Hiking Society, now only composed of Boboy and Jim Parades, even dedicates a segment in their concert where they sing with him in the presence of his son, Jobim Javier.
The Lutong Bahay gang turned emotional when Boboy left a message to Danny.
“I really miss you, especially when we have very, very successful shows. We wish we could share it with you. I'm sure, tumatalon-talon [ka] rin sa langit…”
Danny Javier passed away in 2022 because of “complications due to his prolonged illnesses.”
Meanwhile, the Apo Hiking Society continues its legacy and has concluded tours worldwide.
