The ongoing crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic has not only threatened our health and economy. The current situation has greatly affected the regular activities in school, too.
Graduating students were deprived of a ceremony where they can march on stage and take pride of their diplomas in their hands. Meanwhile, others remain confused as well as restricted about the adjustments to be implemented as we approach the supposed start of an academic year.
While people are kept to the edge of their seats, concerned about how they or their children can continue their education amid the COVID-19 crisis, Bogart the Explorer opened up about his personal experience that presents a good perspective about this year's interruption of classes.
Bogart the Explorer, or Marco Ho in real life, began, “I was a consistent honor student and valedictorian in elementary and an academic excellence awardee in high school. I then went on to UP Diliman to take up a degree in Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering on a full DOST scholarship. Then before my freshman year was even up, I threw it all away and dropped all my subjects.

"I don't exactly know why but at that time I felt that I had had enough of school. I realized that for most of my life, I was just going through the motions. I was excelling but I wasn't feeling it. See even as a kid I didn't really know what I wanted to do or who I wanted to be. Even now I still don't know.”
The internet sensation admitted to skipping the chance to complete college but he emphasized that a disruption in one's studies does not necessarily dictate one's direction in life.
He continued, “After that, I became a drop out, a vagrant, a street vendor, a couch surfer, a call center agent, a QA, a trainer, a program manager, a roadie, a drummer, a production assistant and then Bogart the Explorer. You see. Even though we're the result of our choices, you never really know what life is going to bring. Now I'm a radio dj, a video director, a businessman, a board member, a consultant, a surfer, a husband and a father.
“So don't worry about missing school this year. There's always next year. As long as you and your loved ones are still healthy and alive, anything is still possible. You'll still become who you were meant to be. Even if you don't know it yet.”
