Boy Abunda and Nanay Lesing

Boy Abunda on Nanay Lesing's passing: "This pain is the only thing that connects me to my mother."

Following Luis Manzano's heartfelt narrative in the special program My Mother, My Story, it was Boy Abunda's turn to reminisce the memories and invaluable lessons he learned from his late mother, Nanay Lesing.

In Luis Manzano's video, Luis Listens, the renowned King of Talk opened up about his cherished moments with his beloved mother and the profound life lessons she taught him.

Boy Abunda fondly described his Nanay Lesing as his moral compass and the driving force behind his life's purpose. Many of the values he holds dear were instilled in him by Nanay Lesing, including the advice, "Kahit anong mangyari sa'yo sa buhay, huwag kang mawawala pauwi. Never lose your way back home."

Their bond was strengthened through simple conversations even as his mother's health declined. Boy Abunda recalled a moment when, despite her battle with dementia, he felt her heartfelt engagement as tears welled up in her eyes while listening to his sad story.

Reflecting further on his beloved Nanay Lesing, Boy Abunda shared a painful memory that remains in his heart.

"She died in my arms, 3:48 ng December 1... dito namatay ang aking Nanay," he said.

The agony of witnessing his mother's gradual passing made him feel as though he was being torn apart, unable to function and make sense of the situation.

"It was hard, it was difficult. Pero for... it was so painful. Alam mo Luis 'yung pakiramdam na to be gutted? Para kang hinihiwa buong katawan mo, parang 'yung hinahati ka? Ganoon ang pakiramdam mo. Wala, hindi ka nag-fu-function. Intellectually, mentally, emotionally, noong nawala ang Nanay and I was dealing with the pain. Ang sakit-sakit," he expressed.

Despite the overwhelming pain, Boy Abunda chose to embrace it, recognizing the memory as the sole connection he has left with his mother.

"Ayoko mawala 'yung pain because as long as I live, I want this pain to be part of my life because this is the only thing that connects me to my mother," he tearfully expressed.

In honor of his mother's memory, Boy Abunda constructed a small chapel for her at his rest house in Lipa. He ensures that her spirit remains a cherished presence in his life, guiding him in a positive way.
