Filipino YouTuber Bretman Rock apologized for what he did and said he will take full responsibility.

Internet sensation Bretman Rock drew strong criticisms lately after a video of him twerking to the Philippine national anthem resurfaced online.

The original video was uploaded by Bretman on his Instagram stories last September 2019 where he is seen singing and eventually dancing to “Lupang Hinirang.”

Moments after he originally posted it, Rock admitted that the video was disrespectful and he took it down.

By December 30, the video began popping up again on sites such as Facebook and YouTube thus prompting the YouTuber to apologize for his actions.

According to the Republic Act No. 8491, otherwise known as the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines, it states that the reverence and respect shall at all times be accorded to the flag, the anthem, and other national symbols that embody the national ideals which express the principles of sovereignty and national solidarity.

Similarly, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) issued a notice against disrespecting the country's national anthem.

Although the commission didn't mention Bretman's name, it said that it received numerous complaints about a video showing a man dancing to the national anthem.

The notice further reminded everyone that the violation of the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines could lead to a PhP 5,000 to PhP 20,000 fine, or imprisonment of not more than one year.
