Bretman Rock shares his most disappointing celebrity encounter was with Vanessa Hudgens

Social media star Bretman Rock recently opened up about his most disappointing celebrity encounter—and the name caught many listeners by surprise.

During his guest appearance on the Sweet or Savory Podcast, hosted by Filipino-American couple Alyssa Navarro Rafael and AJ Rafael, Bretman candidly revealed that actress Vanessa Hudgens tops his list of underwhelming celebrity interactions. When asked directly who disappointed him the most, Bretman didn't hesitate before answering.

"Okay. VH...Vanessa Hudgens."

He proceeds to narrate their encounter in a musical festival many years ago.

"Well, I met her at Coachella and we were there for Sugar Bear Hair because brands fly you out, you to go to Coachella. That's like a thing.

"Yeah, we were both there for Sugar Bear Hair. This was like young me, like short hair still me. So, I think like 2017 down, I think maybe 2018 even.

"But we have to go to the Sugar Bear house to pick up our tickets to go to Coachella and she was there and she was talking to the CEO of Sugar Bear Hair and I was friends with the Sugar Bear Hair CEO because like, and I remembered her talking to him but obviously I was trying to get his attention.

"So I'm like waving and I'm like I forgot his name honestly. It was, like maybe let's just say it was Chris, like, 'Chris!' like waving at him and not at her and she like like literally like looks at me and it like tries to hide.

"I'm like first of all I'm not saying hi to you. First of all, I was always Team Sharpay. Let's just get that out of the way," Bretman says, referring to Sharpay Evans of High School Musical played by Ashley Tisdale, antagonist to Vanessa Hudgens' character Gabriella Montez.

"Second of all, you're not even Mexican. Like, you're not. You're not. You're not," Bretman says, referring to Vanessa Hudgens being mistaken as Mexican, which the actress has denied.

"And third of all, I'm not a fan. Like, she had a second person there. I think it was her assistant cuz I don't know who she was.

"And she grabs her hand and makes her stand in front of her like to kind of like block her. Yes. Because at that point, like I was walking towards them to say hi to the CEO of And that's why we're here. You know what I mean? And you know how she's been like dubbed as like the Coachella queen, whatever that means.

"I was not [ __ ] saying hi to you, Vanessa. There's no re reason for you to be hiding or having to have your assistant hide because the only ones here are the ones invited.

"Like girl, we have the same rate. It's not like you're getting an artist pass and I'm getting a general. We're getting the same pass.

"And I know time and place as somebody that has also been around famous people, especially at that time. Like I know when to ask for a photo and when to not."

The story, shared years after the encounter, sparked mixed reactions online, with some praising Bretman Rock's honesty while others debated the situation. Regardless, the moment offered a glimpse into the less glamorous side of celebrity interactions and highlighted how even brief encounters can leave lasting impressions.

In 2023, Vanessa Hudgens was appointed as the Philippines' Global Tourism Ambassador, a role that drew widespread attention both locally and abroad.

That same year, Bretman Rock also traveled to the Philippines, where online users praised him for showcasing the country through his social media posts. His vacation content, featuring local destinations and culture, was widely shared, with many noting how naturally he highlighted the Philippines to his global audience.
