Britney Spears has revealed a secret she has kept for over 20 years.

The pop icon confesses a painful past in her upcoming memoir, The Woman in Me. Britney claims she became pregnant with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake but went through an abortion.

An excerpt from the book was released by media outlets, Britney wrote, "It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn't a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I'd anticipated.”

She continues, “But Justin definitely wasn't happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren't ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young."

The 41-year-old star added, "If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn't want to be a father."

She described the ordeal, "To this day, it's one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life."

Britney also described meeting Timberlake when she was 11 on the set of The Mickey Mouse Club, remembering her first kiss with him during a game of Truth or Dare.

She was 17 when she started dating Justin in 1999, eventually calling it quits in 2002.

Britney later on gave birth to two sons -- Sean Preston and Jayden James -- with her second husband, Kevin Federline.

In The Woman in Me, Britney also reflects on her "soul-crushing" 13-year conservatorship under her father James “Jamie” Spears.

“The woman in me was pushed down for a long time,” she wrote in the excerpts. “They wanted me to be wild onstage, the way they told me to be, and to be a robot the rest of the time.”

Earlier this year, Britney got divorced from her estranged husband Sam Ashgari, saying she "couldn't take the pain anymore." The two wed in June 2022.

The Woman in Me will be released on October 24, 2023.
