
On Saturday, April 17, business tycoon Lucio Tan has been hospitalized for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as confirmed by his daughter, Vivienne Tan.
In an Instagram post, Vivienne shared that her father is in “stable condition” and is “recovering.”
She said in the post, “Thank you for all your concern and prayers. My dad was admitted to the hospital after he tested positive for COVID-19.
“He is in stable condition, responding well, and recovering. We would like to request for some privacy at this time. Please continue to pray for his speedy recovery.”
Similarly, Philippine Airlines (PAL) said in a statement that its board, management, and staff “join the Tan family in prayers and well wishes for the speedy recovery of Dr. Tan.”
Lucio Tan, aged 86, is the chairman and chief executive officer of LT Group, MacroAsia Corporation, PAL Holdings, the parent company of the national carrier Philippine Airlines, and owns the University of the East.
Lucio is also a director of the Philippine National Bank, along with his wife Carmen and his two children Vivienne and Michael.
Before making his many fortunes, the businessman came to the Philippines after his family moved from Fujian, China, where he established his business that would form a part of the Lucio Tan Groups of Companies.
Currently, his net worth is estimated to be $3.2 million, and holds the title of the third richest Filipino, according to the 2021 Forbes ranking.
Amid the pandemic, Lucio Tan donated a biomolecular laboratory to the Philippine Red Cross.
