You've got the wrong Co, folks!

Lifestyle content creator and entrepreneur Camille Co lightened the mood of an already tense situation for her and her family with several people still unable to comprehend that she and the controversial Claudine Co are not the same and are not related at all.

Claudine is the daughter of former Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Christopher Co, co-founder of Hi-Tone Construction and Development Corporation. She is also the niece of Congressman Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co, the chief executive officer of Sunwest Group of Companies.

Hi-Tone and Sunwest were among the 15 contractors tagged by President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos, Jr. that got 20 percent of the PhP 545 billion budget for flood control projects.

Camille uploaded a video on TikTok to poke fun at her current problem that people wouldn't believe that she isn't related to the politically linked Co.

She wrote in the caption of her video that garnered over 2.3 million views, “Try natin ang Tiktok style and in Filipino para sana, ma-gets niyo na and hindi masayang effort niyo sa page ko. CAMILLE CO po ang pangalan ko, ipinanganak at lumaki sa Metro Manila. NOT A SCHOLAR OF THE PHILIPPINES PO. I THANK YOU BOW. Tiffany and Co. lang po ang sikat na “Co” na tinatanggap ko, basta hindi galing sa pera ng bayan.”

She again turned serious in a separate IG Story and asked the help of her followers and netizens.

"TBH, so many people have been sending me links to posts made by online news/ publications about my 'statement.'

“The headlines are clear as day, so you'd think people would catch on- and yet, when you scroll down the comments section, there are still who either can't, or flat-out refuse, to comprehend.

“So I hope that if you come across these comments and have time/ energy to correct them on my behalf, please do. I would do it myself if I could, but I know that with my postpartum hormones, I won't be able to handle the stress.”

She continued, “I've been in this industry for more than 15 years and not once did I need shortcuts or shady connections to get to where I am. My work speaks for itself- always has, always will.”

According to legal experts, family members of public officials should follow Republic Act No. 6713 or Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

The law specifically states that relatives of government officials and employees must lead “modest lives.”

“Public Officials and employees and their families shall lead MODEST LIVES appropriate to their positions and income. They shall not indulge in EXTRAVAGANT or OSTENTATIOUS display of wealth in any form.”
