Can the famous Christmas dessert really last up to two decades?

The fruitcake is hands down the most famous edible gift that people give as presents during Christmas. In the Philippines, it's inevitable to receive at least one fruit cake from friends or family during the holiday season.

But, have you ever wondered why the fruitcake has become such a popular Christmas dessert? Well, the answer seems to lie in the fruitcake's long shelf life.

In an episode of Mars Pa More, Kuya Kim Atienza confirms that the fruit cake can last up to more than two decades if prepared and stored properly.

“Alam n'yo ba, mga mars at pars, na ang shelf life ng fruitcake--kung tama ang pagkaka-bake nito at maayos ang pagkakatabi--ay kayang tumagal ng hanggang two years,” Kuya Kim reveals.

He also shared that a slice of fruitcake from the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana was sold in an auction for $6,000 (around PhP 300,00) 27 years after their wedding.

Watch Kuya Kim, Mars Iya , and Camille Prats talk about this mind-blowing trivia in the Mars Pa More video above.
