Mauricio. In Lupin, Katrina Halili portrays Ashley, who’s part of Team Lupin, a four-man group that includes Richard Gutierrez (Lupin), Ehra Madrigal (Brigitte), and Boy 2 Quizon (Castor). Between the two girls, Kat’s character is the stronger, more focused one, unlike Brigitte, who lets her feelings for Lupin get in the way. Like Ashley, Kat believes that love can really complicate things. “Kahit sa anong trabaho, nakakasagabal talaga ‘yung love life. Like sa trabaho dito sa showbiz, hindi ka pwede magsabay ng love life kasi para sa akin ha, talagang nakaka-istorbo kasi laging priority ‘yung guy di ba?” On second thought, she clarifies, “Sa tingin ko, okay naman pagsabayin pero siguro mga 30% lang sa love life, 70% para sa work mo na!” But Kat imparts that although she and Ashley may have similar thoughts on romantic relationships, there is one aspect where the two greatly vary. “Actually kasi, (ang) totoong Katrina, weak, iyakin... Sobrang konting (bagay lang), iiyak (na). Gusto (ko nga) ipasok ‘yung character (ni Ashley) sa sarili ko. Para good luck na lang sa mga taong mahilig manira. Good luck sa kanila baka barilin ko sila! Hahahaha!” Ashley is an expert in guns, and Kat seems to pull it off naturally, even if she confesses that she was petrified of shooting at first. During heists, Ashley and Brigitte are the ones who tempt and tease, the ones who divert the victims’ attention for their mission to be successful. We asked Kat if it’s okay for women to take advantage of their looks to get what they want. Here’s what she said. “Medyo! Hindi, joke lang! Uhm, actually, in real life, hindi naman po talaga dapat (gawin ‘yun),” Kat starts off with a sly smile. Turns out she has used this strategy a few times already! “Minsan...!” she admits. “Ang plastic naman kung sabihin kong hindi di ba? Syempre minsan ginagamit din ‘yung mga pa-cute cute di ba? Like kunwari, may pila, (tapos) minsan pa-cute cute ka...Alam mo ‘yun? ‘Baka naman pwede na hindi na kami pumila...’ Mga ganun. Pero hindi talaga na kailangan kami mauna dahil maganda kami. Hindi ganun, pa-cute lang.” Busy with suitors! With her irresistible charm, it’s not unusual that Kat has many guys vying for her affection. “Medyo hindi na (ako sawi sa love life). Medyo parang year ko (nga) ngayon, eh!” Kat shares with a laugh. Although we find it hard to believe, Kat says that she never had suitors until now; something that makes her happy about herself. “Walang wala as in wala talaga kahit kailan. Ngayon lang!” She adds with a grin, “Nakakalito, marami na sila!” She jokes that her suitors don’t even have to spend that much because she’s such a homebody. “Tamad ako lumabas, sobrang tamad (talaga), kaya ‘yung mga manliligaw ko medyo tipid, di ba? Kasi dumadalaw lang sila, may dalang flowers, ‘yun lang. Kasi hindi naman ako lumalabas kahit watching movies, ayoko eh.” No one can really point out what Kat’s true allure is. It may be her brutal frankness, her to-die-for vital stats, or her endless involvement in various controversies.
