
Sinag Maynila Film Festival is back for its seventh edition, celebrating the best of contemporary Filipino filmmaking.
This year's festival features a curated selection of full-length features, documentaries, and short films from both established and rising Filipino filmmakers. All official finalist films will be screened in select Metro Manila theaters on September 24-30.
In a statement, the festival's founder Wilson Tieng shared his enthusiasm for the overwhelming response.
"The enthusiasm from the filmmaking community is exactly what Sinag Maynila is all about," Tieng said.
Likewise, co-founder and Cannes International Film Festival Best Director Brillante Mendoza highlighted their vision for Sinag Maynila.
"We are thrilled to continue our advocacy for 'Sine Lokal, Pang-International' and provide a space where these talented individuals can share their work with a wider audience,” he said.
In the feature film category, five entries from respected local filmmakers will be competing in this year's Sinag Maynila.
Award-wining director Joel Lamangan offers Madawag Ang Landas Patungong Pag-Asa, which features Kapuso actors Rita Daniela and Jak Roberto, together with Albie Casino.
It tells the story of a new teacher in a remote village who struggles to persuade the children to go back to class, and to work with a community used to the "old ways.”
Director GB Sampedro joins the festival for the first time via his film Selda Tres, featuring Carla Abellana, JM De Guzman, and Cesar Montano.
Its story revolves around a law office messenger who helps defend his former cellmates in court as a paralegal.
Joining also for the first time is director Topel Lee, who offers another horror film titled Jeongbu, starring Aljur Abrenica, Ritz Azul, Empress Schuck.
This entry is a story of an evil element that wants to change the personality of Ethan's wife and make her love him more than her own. 'Jeongbu' is a Korean word that also means “mistress.”
Director Kevin Pison Piamonte's Cande tells the story of a successful Filipino chef in New York who returns to his hometown for his childhood best friend's funeral. During his visit, he must confront a tragic past and the possibility of long-overdue forgiveness amid the backdrop of a vibrant hometown fiesta.
This film features JC Santos, Gian Pomperada, and Sunshine Teodoro.
Director Serville Poblete's Altar Boy features Mark Bacolcol, Shai Barcia, and Pablo S.J. Quiogue.
It explores the life of a passive-natured teenager struggles to navigate the school year while trying to break free from the persona built around his religious upbringing.
Aside from the full-length films, Sinag Maynila also highlights select documentaries and short films, some produced by students.
Sinag Maynila 2025 will be screened in Gateway, Robinsons Manila, Robinsons Antipolo, SM Mall of Asia, and SM Fairview. The festival organizers have pegged the price of admission at only PhP250 per ticket.
