Carla Abellana Tom Rodriguez

For the next 10 years, Carla Abellana may have to keep her last name.

Kapuso primetime star Carla Abellana explained why she hasn't taken her husband Tom Rodriguez's last name yet.

In a new video on her YouTube channel, the To Have and To Hold actress shared that their marriage certificate has yet to be released and her newly-renewed passport, along with her other government-issued documents, still identify her as Abellana.

“None of my IDs say Mott [Tom's real surname]. For the longest time, it's going to stay Abellana because my passport says Abellana and it's valid for ten years. Bagong bago lang ang aking passport. Kaka-renew lang so Abellana pa 'yun for the next 10 years. All my government-issued IDs are still Abellana so I have to write Abellana pa rin,” she said.

Changing one's civil status and surname in the Philippines requires a marriage certificate and a visit to many government offices, including the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Carla also noted that her social media accounts still reflect her maiden name because some of her married peers in the entertainment industry have kept theirs as well, naming Solenn Heusaff and Jennylyn Mercado among others.

Following their engagement in late 2020, the reel-to-real Kapuso power couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at the San Juan Nepomuceno Parish Church on October 23.

They recently celebrated their first month as newlyweds at an Italian-Filipino restaurant in Parañaque City.
