In 2017, Sanrio Group Philippines opened a Sanrio-themed cafe inspired by the most popular cat cartoon in town, Hello Kitty.
The Sanrio team centered its establishment in all things Hello Kitty and all things kawaii, from the interiors down to the food.
Aside from that, their menu is also French-Mediterranean inspired, making each delicacy incroyable (incredible, in English).
Pop Talk puts the carefully curated menu to the test, and unsurprisingly, the cafe satisfied not only Tonipet Gaba's taste buds but also of the guest reviewer, Chef Laudico.
Here's what they have to say about the menu:
1. Creamy Portobello Mushroom Soup (PhP 245)

For starters, the group tasted the cafe's signature Creamy Portobello Mushroom Soup, a hearty appetizer topped with truffles and a fresh garden salad on the side.
At first sip, the chef complimented the soup's rich flavors but added, “I think, siguro dapat they made it less thick kasi na-a-absorb ng bread 'yung liquid pa.
“But, masarap siya, ha.”
2. Salad Marius (PhP 385)

The group followed the soup with the Salad Marius, which features the different textures and flavors of lettuce, carrots, orange wedges, blue cheese, and walnuts.
As a finishing touch, the restaurant placed an edible Hello Kitty ribbons on top.
According to Chef Laudico, “It's very colorful, and I like the fact that they used edible flowers and meron din siyang pink ribbons.
“'Yung dressing niya bagay kasi it's honey mustard and most of all, it's visually it's appealing.”
3. Shrimp Scampi (PhP 440)

The restaurant's Shrimp Scampi served as the group's first entree. Shrimp Scampi is a popular dish made of seared shrimps on a bed of garlic and olive oil-infused linguini noodles. On top, is a heart-shaped toast with a Hello Kitty drawing inside.
“Ito 'yung kanilang shrimp scampi. For me, 'yung garlic nila medyo raw and 'yung shrimp nila boiled. Siguro dapat 'yung shrimp sauteed na lang with the garlic and olive oil.
“But the pasta is cooked al dente, and the presentation is nice,” Chef Laudico said.
4. Pork with Herbes de Provence (PhP 525)

Passing with flying colors is the Pork with Herbes de Provence, which is composed of tender pork chops marinated in savory marjoram, rosemary, thyme, and oregano.
On the side, one will find a Hello Kitty-shaped mashed potato with French beans and cherry tomatoes.
Taste-wise, Chef Laudico commended its side dish for its “fluffy taste and creamy texture.”
He added, “The French beans, ang tawag dito ay haricot vert, which means 'bean' and 'green,' respectively.
“Pagdating doon sa main component, which is 'yung pork, yes, the herbs are there. It's good.”
5. Burgeresse (PhP 495)

Burgeresse is a meat patty topped with fried onion rings and melted cheese sandwich in between a Hello Kitty-stamped brioche buns.
Unlike its predecessor, Chef Laudico was a bit disappointed with the entree because he wanted the meat to be more “flavorful.”
He explained, “I think for kids mas okay siya. Pero for me, I like it na mas flavorful. However, this is a good onion ring. The fries, wala akong masasabi diyan kasi okay siya.”
6. Chocolate truffles, Chocolate Biskies, and Mango Charlotte

Hitting the trifecta is the Hello Kitty Cafe's line of desserts, namely, the Chocolate Truffles, Chocolate Biskies, and the Mango Charlotte.
By cutting each cake, Chef Laudico could easily spot the dessert's moisture level, and of course, it didn't disappoint.
He said, “Wow! It's moist and looks very rich. Nakita mo 'yung layers niya? That's called a ganache.
“The cake is very moist at hindi siya masyadong nakakaumay.”
Overall, the Hello Kitty Cafe faired very well for Chef Laudico. It's the perfect place for girls who'd love to not only experience good food but also have an Instagram-worthy moment inside with their friends.
Based on the reviews made by the esteemed chef, we recommend getting the Salad Marius, Pork with Herbes de Provence, and any of the three desserts named above.
