Shortly after posting Rico Yan's letter to her in 1998, actress Claudine Barretto has deleted her post after defending it from bashers who seemingly questioned its authenticity.
Just as many fans' hearts melted yet again with Rico's sweet letter to Claudine where he boldly said she is his life, some could not help but doubt if indeed it was the actor who wrote it or the actress just made it up herself.
One netizen noticed what seemed to be a striking similarity in penmanship of Rico's supposed letter with Claudine's own letter for her mother. Also, the netizen observed that the paper, despite being over two decades old, looked fairly new.
And so the netizen asked, "No hate po, I am a big fan of your loveteam, but just want to ask if [he] did write this and pinost and cinopy niyo lang? Much love po."
This Claudine answered with "no not my writing."
A similar question was again asked by another netizen. "Is it your penmanship po Miss Clau, but did he somehow wrote [sic] or said [sic] this to you?"
Claudine responded with "My penmanship po is ASSU[M]PTION PENMANSHIP po."
The post is no longer visible on the actress' timeline.
The letter was dated September 7, 1998. Claudine and Rico were then at the height of their careers as one of the '90s premier loveteams.
Having been together for years, fans hoped that the two would eventually end up marrying each other until Rico unexpectedly met his death in 2002 while in his sleep at his hotel room in Dos Palmas resort in Palawan.
The public has seen Claudine in deep grief as she faced her boyfriend's death.
She eventually married action star Raymart Santiago. However, through the years since Rico's death, she has always been quoted saying she never lost her love for him.
