During the first week of Code Name: Yong Pal, we get to meet talented surgeon Dr. Kim who is in dire need of money and is forced to live a double life as Yong Pal to pay for his sister's medical bills.

In the first episode, Dr. Kim visits his sister, Shirley, receiving dialysis in the admitting room of the hospital. As he checks on her, he reminisces the time when he was about to become an intern in the hospital and told Shirley that he will do everything to heal her.

During one of his rounds in the hospital, Dr. Kim was given an extra fee by a rich client whom he helped perform surgery on but Chief Lee saw him taking the money and was called to his office. Chief Lee scolded Dr. Kim and told him that this wasn't the first time he did this. Dr. Kim, later on, admitted this and said that he only did his job by saving the patient Chief Lee couldn't save during surgery.

In the second episode of Code Name: Yong Pal, we get to witness the double life of Dr. Kim as he transforms into Yong Pal. Yong Pal is a code name Dr. Kim carries whenever he is treating gangsters who cannot go to the hospital and receive special care. Yong Pal goes to one of the bars where the mafia boss is injured and treats him by removing the bullet inside of his body.

As Yong Pal continues to treat the mafia boss, the police get a tip about where they are hiding. Yong Pal along with the mafia boss goes on a car chase with the police as they try to escape them but end up being cornered at a bridge. Trying to look for a way out, Yong Pal tells the mafia boss that they should jump in the water in order to escape. He then injects medicine into his and the mafia boss' body to survive the fall.

Upon surviving and successfully escaping the police, Yong Pal realizes that his scalpel is gone from his surgery kit. This then worries Yong Pal as his scalpel has a serial number that can be easily traced back to him. His partner in crime told him not to worry about it since the police will be focusing on the wanted gangsters. But as the police search the crime scene, they find Yong Pal's scalpel on the floor.

The police then track the hospital where the scalpel came from and visit it. During his duty at the hospital, Dr. Kim sees the police who ran after him and the mafia boss and was frozen to find out that they were asking about the owner of his scalpel.
