Dennis Trillo returns to the telefantasya genre as the Zaido leader, Gallian, his most challenging and most complex project to date.
Dennis Trillo started out in the Kapuso network with supporting roles. After playing both the mentor and nemesis of the Super Twins, he returns to the telefantasya genre as the Zaido leader, Gallian. In a previous interview, Dennis revealed why he decided to accept the newest role. This time, he helps us understand the complexities of his latest show and why it’s different from his previous primetime projects. Text by Jason John S. Lim. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio. Very action-based is how Dennis Trillo describes his latest role in Zaido: Pulis Pangkalawakan, especially since his character will fight with different kinds of villains throughout the series. starsAside from the fight scenes, he notes that Gallian’s look is a challenge in itself. “May contact lenses and ‘yung hair... Siguro pinaka-nahirapan lang ako ‘yung maglagay ng mga products sa buhok at ayusin siya. Kasi medyo kakaiba siya -- parang nakuryente,” he says. In fact, he considers a Zaido as his most difficult project to date. “Unang-una, hindi ko pa rin ma-imagine kung papaano nila gagawin ‘yung (mga effects) para sa TV,” Dennis shares. Some of the special effects he looks forward to include the transformation of the Avilo into a gun or a robot, and the movement of the monsters. No pressure starsThese concerns aside, Dennis seems to be having the time of his life when iGMA visited him at the set of Zaido. He attributes the friendly environment to their director, Dominic Zapata. “Ang sarap niyang katrabaho. Iba talaga ‘yung feel kapag siya ‘yung nagdi-direct. Very light. Pinapatawa nya kaming lahat sa set. Walang pressure. “Actually, na-miss ko siya nung pagkatapos naming mag-Super Twins,” the actor adds with all sincerity. At that time, Dennis notes that they’ve only filmed a few fight scenes, training sequences and Gallian’s sojourn in the planet Earth, so he couldn’t say much about Gallian yet. He nevertheless shares that as the oldest and most experienced Zaido, Gallian would also serve as a mentor and guide to the other Zaidos -- prompting him to say that Gallian can be compared to Eliseo, his character in Super Twins, in some ways. stars“Pero si Eliseo, full-time mentor talaga eh,” Dennis clarifies. “Dito, parang (si Gallian) lang ‘yung guide and ‘yung mayroong knowledge doon sa secret na kailangan ipa-discover ko (kay Marky Cielo at Aljur Abrenica.) Ako ‘yung magpapa-realize na sila ‘yung descendants ni Shaider at mayroon kaming misyon na dapat gawin.” Dennis adds that they had to modernize the characters featured in the original Shaider series. “Ni-renovate ng konti (‘yung characters), para hindi exactly the same doon sa original.” “Dapat ninyong abangan dito sa Zaido ‘yung mga (bagong gagawin ng GMA-7),” he proudly asserts. “Humongous talaga ‘tong proyektong ito,” Dennis says, adding that there will be a lot of firsts for GMA-7 -- from the extensive sets with their futuristic feel to the miniature sets.
