Inter-Agency Standing Committee Reference Group on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergency Settings (IASC MHPSS RG) developed this project through the feedback it received from its global survey.

“A global survey was distributed in Arabic, English, Italian, French and Spanish to assess children's mental health and psychosocial needs during the COVID-19 outbreak,” the IASC explained.

“A framework of topics to be addressed through the story was developed using the survey results,” it added.

No ordinary children's book

The book primarily aims to reach children aged six to 11 years old in all parts of the world to help them cope with the global health crisis caused by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 or COVID-19. It has 12 language versions already published online.

How to take care of your mental health during COVD-19 quarantine period?

The book tells about the adventure of a girl named Sara and a fantasy creature called Ario who traveled around the world to tell children how to stay safe and protect themselves, their families and friends from coronavirus.

It also explains to children how to manage difficult emotions when confronted with a new and rapidly changing reality.

According to IASC, author Helen Patuck wrote the story script and illustrated the book.

“The book was shared through storytelling to children in several countries affected by COVID-19,” the IASC said.
