Texas-based alt band Culture Wars marked another milestone in their career with the release of their newest single, “Typical Ways,” on March 28, 2025.
It is a “modern rock and roll” track about the “cycle of addiction and falling into one's typical ways.”
In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, Culture Wars vocalist Alex Dugan shared a deeper look at the process of making “Typical Ways,” which he dubbed as an “angry letter” to himself.
“You know, the body can only take so much abuse. At a certain point, you start getting into your 20s and you turn 30, and your body will be like 'We can't do this anymore,' so that's probably what kind of sprung it,” said Alex.
He added, “At a certain point, you gotta grow up and that's what I had to figure out.”
According to Alex, his bandmate Dillon Randolph proposed the song before the pandemic and said he immediately found the words to add to it.
“When I woke up the next morning, I was just thinking it in my head when I woke up so I recorded a voice note on my phone. That was it. The whole thing was pretty much done,” said Alex. “It was just very immediate and straightforward…”
Although the song carries heavy emotions for Alex, the singer said he had made peace with them after having an outlet for his unsung feelings.
Alex told GMANetwork.com, “I've been [...] just growing up a lot since then, so much so that I almost feel connected to it, but disconnected to it. It's more like I recognize that it's a previous self, [...] but my life is very different now, so a lot better than myself. Very healthy and responsible.”

“What LANY gave to us, by allowing us to play with them, opened up a lot of doors [...] and we're gonna keep trying to step up and do the right things,” he added, “We just hope to keep stepping up and giving those opportunities the effort and the respect that it deserves…”
Culture Wars will open for LANY again in Taiwan this June 1 at the Kaohsiung Music Center.
Aside from LANY, the band has supported Maroon 5 as well, including their show in the Philippines in January.
