A former beauty queen, singer and actress, Mrs. Cuneta is survived by her children, Cesar and Sharon. She would have turned 80 this December.

Actress KC Concepcion broke the news first through her Twitter account last Thursday, November 5, that her grandmother, Elaine Gamboa-Cuneta has passed away.

According to the statement released by the Cuneta family, the 79-year-old matriarch succumbed to internal bleeding and complications arising from abdominal surgery.

Cuneta was rushed to an undisclosed hospital on Septermber 2 due to chest pain.

The widow of former Pasay City Mayor, Pablo Cuneta was since admitted into the ICU for more than seven weeks. Both KC Concepcion and Sharon Cuneta have been open about Mrs. Cuneta’s sensitive condition.

Part of Sharon’s long Facebook post last September 28 reads, “Mom had surgery yesterday...they had to put a hole in her throat so that she could breathe and that darn tube she hated so much could finally be removed. She developed an infection and the cause was bacteria that had grown in said darn tube, as well as in her stent! She had fever for 48 hours before her operation...Please, please may I ask you to keep praying for my Mommy?”

KC also immediately posted a photo of her grandmother smiling in her hospital bed. KC called her “sunshine.”

Mrs. Cuneta’s wake is at Sanctuario de San Antonio in Forbes Park and will be held until November 11.
