Jade Lopez is back in the limelight, both in real life and in the small screen! Jade plays Daniela on ‘Kaputol ng Isang Awit,’ an ambitious young singer who will stop at nothing to pursue her dreams. Jade Lopez considers her role as Daniela in Kaputol ng Isang Awit as her comeback to showbiz—and she’s loving every second of portraying the friend of Lovi Poe’s Joanna. “Nag-audition [si Daniela] for Awit Records, tapos nag-end-up siya as back-up singer ni Lovi Poe, [who plays] Joanna.” The young actress recounts that her character has an ongoing competition with Sarah (played by Glaiza de Castro) for the limelight, fueled by the manipulative Joanna. “Ang ginawa ni Joanna, since parang ambisyosa ako dito, [she connived with Daniela] para gawan ng masama si Sarah. “So, kontrabida ako dito.” “Sa start kasi ng show parang nangangarap din lang siya,” the StarStruck alumnus explains about her character. “Hindi naman talaga siya bad.” But because Daniela doesn’t want to be left behind by her dreams, she learns to not take things for granted—to connive with Joanna into making sure she’s gets to be on top. What Jade loves most about Daniela is her flexibility as a character though. “Pwede siyang mabait tapos magiging bad siya.” Lessons on becoming Daniela For her role as Daniela, Jade went under the tutelage of Miss Anne Villegas, one of the network’s top acting coaches. “Si Tita, si Miss Anne Villegas, ‘yung nagturo sa akin nito na kailangan iisiipin ko ako parin si Jade [ako,] pero kina-character ko ‘yung role ko. “Tapos iisipin ko na kung ano talaga ‘yung feelings [ni Daniela, at] hindi ako,” Jade says that sometimes, before taping, she’d condition herself to start thinking as Daniela and not as Jade. “Gagawan ko siya ng story, hanggang sa ‘yun! Na-a-act out ko na siya.” Jade reveals that when she’s internalizing, she tends to zone out, “Minsan tinatawag na nila ako, hindi ko sila napapansin. Kasi nagde-daydream na ako.” She giggles, “hindi naman nila nahahalata.” The young actress also says that she’s thankful for the guidance of her mentors, Directors Mike Tuviera and Rommel Gatcho. “Sobrang galing nilang directors!” Jade takes on singing For her latest role, Jade divulges that she had to go back to her voice lessons, lessons she never seem to finish when she was a kid. “Kasi nagstart ako before pa bago ako mag artista. Nung nag acting workshop ako [before], sinabayan ko siya ng voice lessons. Pero hindi ko siya laging natatapos. “Tapos ‘yun nga. Nung [nasama ako sa] Kaputol, ayun every week na ako nag voice lessons,” Jade explains, before revealing that this is the actually her first time to sing on national television that’s not part of a contest. “Ang forte ko kasi is acting and dancing. Tapos tinawagan nga ako for Kaputol, wala nagulat lang ako. “Actually, para sa akin eto ‘yung pinaka-challenging role [ko, so far],” Jade adds with a giggle. “Kasi kakanta ako.” But Jade says that she’s very open to explore new horizons, “for me naman, ayokong mag-stay sa comfort zone ko, which is dancing and acting. Gusto ko talagang i-try lahat.” The actress also says that in whatever she does, she likes to give more than a hundred percent of herself. “Lahat ng ginagawa [ko], ginagawa ko ‘yun as if ‘yun na ‘yung last performance ko. So expect nila talaga na bawat eksena [ko], pinaghihirapan ko at binibigay ko ‘yung best ko para maging masaya [ang viewers].” Check out Jade’s performance as a singer, and as an actress, on Kaputol ng Isang Awit.
