David Licauco's sleep apnea operation was a success

Sparkle artist and Pambansang Ginoo David Licauco recently underwent an operation for his sleep apnea last April 30.

In a video uploaded on the official Instagram account of Sparkle GMA Artist Center, David showed gratitude to fans who prayed for the success of his operation, “Sa lahat ng mga sumusuporta sa akin, [I] super appreciate you, guys, for praying for me [and] for my operation.”

Despite facing a hard situation, especially with post-op conditions, David reminded fans not to worry about him anymore; instead, he wants them to focus on themselves.

“Sana happy kayong lahat, and okay na 'yung prayers. Focus na kayo sa mga sarili ninyo and [may] God bless you, guys,” he said.

In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, David opened up about his condition and explained what happens during his sleep.

“Iyong sleep apnea, ano siya, basically, my breathing stops [for] about 30 seconds straight about 24 times in an hour when I'm sleeping,” he said.

He explained that, aside from the risks that go with his sleeping state, his condition also affects his mood the following day, causing him to show unintentional negative attitude during work.

“The next day, bad mood ka. Eh, nasaan [ba] ako? Nasa showbiz industry ako, [and] it's easy to judge [me]. So sa lahat ng nasungitan ko, alam niyo na siguro kung bakit [ako nagsungit],” he shared.

For David, this means that he would only be in a good and positive mood during nighttime after his body has “warmed up” and recovered from the effects of his sleep apnea.

“Actually, sa gabi lang maayos 'yung mood ko, eh [...] kasi siguro, baka kailangan mo talagang mag-warm-up, eh. Kumbaga, 'yung brain ko, matagal siyang mag-warm up as compared to others,” David explained.

According to Alexandra Benisek of WebMD explained that waking up repeatedly due to sleep apnea could cause interruption and poor sleep quality. According to her, this leads to less productivity and the likelihood of feeling irritable, moody, and sad throughout the day.
