Derrick Monasterio is officially returning to his theater roots in Ibarra: The Musical!

Sparkle GMA Artist Center recently shared a glimpse of a pocket interview on their Instagram account featuring Apoy sa Dugo star Derrick Monasterio, confirming his lead role in the upcoming production of Ibarra the Musical.

Known for his powerful vocals and commanding screen presence, Derrick expressed his excitement about breathing life into one of Philippine literature's most iconic characters, Crisostomo Ibarra of Jose Rizal's novel, Noli Me Tangere.

“Derrick Monasterio steps into the spotlight for Ibarra the Musical, seen here during yesterday's pocket interview,” Sparkle wrote in the caption.

The production marks a significant return to the stage for the actor, who has spent much of the recent year headlining various television dramas.

Sparkle described the Kapuso actor with the qualities required for the intense role.

“He's got the look, the voice, and the fire,” they wrote.

Under the direction of Frannie Zamora, this stage adaptation of Jose Rizal's masterpiece,is scheduled to begin its theatrical run this coming June.

Derrick made his professional theatrical debut in the PETA-produced musical Rak of Aegis, portraying the role of Tolits. He earned the part through an audition and joined the production during its seventh season.
