It was a stunned Mylene Dizon who accepted the best actress award as a cancer patient in the film "100" during last Sunday's Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). Text by Erick Mataverde. Photo by Mitch S. Mauricio. starsThe Dyesebel star was visibly elated as she was announced the winner. "Pinagdasal ko lang naman noon [na] sana mai-hanay ako sa mga artista o pagpipiliang mga magagaling na artisa [na gumaganap ng] magandang role sa [isang] magandang pelikula," Mylene said in her acceptance speech. True enough, all her efforts and hard work paid off as this prayer of hers was more than just answered as she came out the victor among the other worthwhile nominees. Aside from Mylene's award, the full-length film 100 was a major winner that night in other categories as it received recognition for Audience Choice, Best Director and Best Screenplay for Chris Martinez and Best Supporting Actress for Eugene Domingo, who, incidentally, also won the in same category earlier this year in the Gawad Tanglaw Awards for her role in Pisay and Foster Child. Eugene celebrates her birthday on June 23, and the Ako si Kim Samsoon star considers these her birthday gifts. starsTessie Tomas, who was also on hand that night and, incidentally, Eugene's co-star in both 100 and Kim Sansoon said, "Nakakawala ng pagod, sabi nga, and I’m so proud to be part of this fantastic film." The other big winner was the film Jay, which was bestowed the Best Full-Length Feature, Best Editing and the Best Actor trophy for Baron Geisler in his role as a gay segment producer. "Karamihan po sa amin nag-direk sa unang pagkakataon kaya napaka-espesyal po ng mga pelikula namin," says Director Francis Xavier Pasion of Jay in his speech. The organizers consider this year’s ceremony a success as Cinemalaya Foundation Chairman Tony Boy Cojuangco declared: "Cinemalaya continues to surprise us in terms of the quality of the output, the turnout of the audience, the enthusiasm that we have received from them. And I think people are happy with what this festival has been doing." Discuss and know more about Mylene and other Kapuso stars and shows by logging on to the iGMA Forums! Not yet a member?
