iGMA.tv had an opportunity to talk to the visionary director of Super Twins, the driven and dynamic Dominic Zapanta.
In a time of chaos and oppression, we finally have superheroes to defend us from the evil forces of Eliazar. They are Super S and Super T, collectively known as the Super Twins. With the twins’ catchy chants, sexy moves and matching outfits, the show has become one of the most watched on Metro Manila’s prime time slot. Its overwhelming success can be attributed to its dramatic story line and unique action sequences that tend to mesmerize both children and adults alike. The question so far is how long can the show maintain its success? Text by Alula dela Cruz. Photos by Connie Tungul.stars iGMA.tv had an opportunity to talk to the visionary director of Super Twins, Dominic Zapanta whose credits include, Mulawin, Darna and Captain Barbell. He revealed to us the winning formula that made Super Twins the most anticipated show to date. From the Beginning Direk Dom, along with rest of the cast, was surprised with the success of the show. “For some strange reason the show seems to be working,” he says, adding that the show's original formula needs no further alterations but rather just minor enhancements from its original concept. “We won’t try to veer away too much from what we’re already doing. We just kind of amplify what has been working for us and just take it to the next level.” stars The next level is what the audience wants, and they are about to get it, “Gusto nila may mga weapons, weapons silang na gagamit, may pangalan yung mga weapons tapos ah, pati yung mga villains natin markado,” he notes. For the succeeding weeks, expect a variety of different villains that are meant to terrorize our favorite heroes' lives. He gives us a teaser to look forward to, “Sa super villains meron kaming Jack En Poy. Three guys sila -- Jack is Jackie, En is Enyong at si Poy si Popoy”. In the story, this new set of villains starts out as petty thieves, and then with the help of the masked Eliazar they become super villains. We wonder can the twins and their new weapons defeat Jack En Poy. Direk Dom elaborates “Sometimes ni re-reinvent mo rin. Dati lipad-lipad lang, suntok-suntok, pero when you introduce new weapon, you’re obliged to do new action scenes.” But he stresses that while action scenes are essential, the story itself is the cement that makes the viewers stick to the show. “Gusto mo sundan ‘yung storya nung iba’t-ibang characters or kung hindi man all the characters, several characters you’ve fallen in love with.” Behind the Story Lies the Truth stars The story and the implementation of the vision is truly a huge aspect for a show to reach its glorifying potential, but the actors themselves are the true motivators. Their passion and conviction helps a show reach the level it aspires for. They make viewers hold on to the story. Direk Dom is a true believer of this idea. He always seeks to motivate the cast to perform well and makes every taping a worthwhile and fun experience for the whole production team and the cast as well. “It all comes (with) the territory. The territory being na we want to run a happy set, cause it’s always a tough grind,” he says. With cast and crew working until the wee hours of the morning, it can be quite a challenge to keep everyone on top of their game. To this end, Direk Dom religiously follows the idea of a happy set, which he defines as the barkada relationship. “If you’re with your barkada and you’re out at night, alas-singko na ng umaga, ayaw mo pa umuwi, kasi you’re having fun.” A good story, amazing action sequences, motivated actors and a passionate director is real success of Super Twins.
