The Miss Universe Philippines (MUPh) organization announced that the final contestants for the first-ever Miss Universe Philippines pageant will be determined on February 10. In light of this, can they actually earn money while being a candidate?

MUPh creative director Jonas Gaffud is thinking of ways for the candidates to earn and be compensated.

As the candidates will be working for two months prior to the coronation night, the MUPh organization are thinking of ways on how the girls can earn during the course of the pageant. One of which is merchandising.

The former head of Aces and Queens then set an example of a figure that a candidate can earn from merchandising.

“What if you can sell a hundred thousand items of lipstick and you [can] have 10 pesos [for each], e 'di may one million ka in two months, 'di ba? So now, the girl earns income from that.”

The creative director then remarked how beauty queen aspirants spend more, especially nowadays.

“When you join a pageant, talagang sobra 'yung expense. Maaawa na nga lang ako sa girls na naka-Angkas kasi mura.”

All in all, the MUPh organization aims to help the candidates through business in order for them not to spend but to earn during the competition.

On top of that, according to the official post of Miss Universe Philippines:

“For starters, the runners up get major cash prizes and guaranteed income.

“For the winner, aside from giving an incredible platform to her advocacies, she will have her own apartment, car, driver, personal assistant, and personal stylist. She will also get the biggest cash prize in the history of Philippine Pageantry.

“Simply put, it is going to be a life fit for a queen.”

The Miss Universe Philippines coronation night will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on May 3.
