From a generous lover to a valiant prince, and now an inspiring mentor, Dennis Trillo has indeed played a variety of roles.
Heartthrob Dennis Trillo is back in the primetime scene with a new tele-fantasya series called Super Twins. From a generous lover to a valiant prince, and now an inspiring mentor, he has indeed played a variety of roles. But he still sees to it to make every character distinct, especially now that director Dominic Zapata asserts that he wants to see a different Dennis this time. In Super Twins , Dennis is Eliseo, the mentor of two little girls who transform into teen super fighters when they kiss their magic rings. Expectations on Dennis are naturally higher now that he is taking on the role of a master of combat. To credibly perform the role, Dennis says he had to undergo basic martial arts training, which helped him focus on the correctness of his form and exactness of his kicks. dennis “’Yung role ko dito, mentor, so kailangang mabigyang justice ko kahit na hindi ko talaga alam lahat ng martial arts” he explains. The freedom to explore the role and the chance prove he has more to offer are Dennis’s major motivations to do well. But aside from these factors, he claims that the healthy and comfortable working relationships between him, the cast and the staff are of utmost importance. dennis “Dito, mas naitaas ko ‘yung level of intensity (of acting). Saka halos lahat ng nandito, nakatrabaho ko na from different shows. Lahat sila mababait (at) professional.” Of course, it’s a bonus to be working with veteran Direk Dom and two pretty girls, Jennylyn Mercado and Nadine Samonte. “Napaka-gaan (ka-trabaho ni Direk Dom). Lagi siyang nagbibiro, so kahit na minsan napapagod ka na, magjo-joke lang siya tatawa ka na”, he says. “(Saka) dalawang magagandang babae ang kasama ko, parang lalong nakaka-inspire magtrabaho”. In between takes, he’ll typically be swaying his head to the beat of the music he’s listening to on his iPod, playing video games or reading the script. But on very tiresome days when sleep is scarce and the workload is heavy, Dennis grabs very chance he gets to power nap. And although meeting expectations may be hard, he says the pressure is alleviated when the people you are working with believe and trust in you. “’Pag nakikita ko ‘yung mga taong nagtitiwala sa’kin, mas ginaganahan ako”, Dennis enthusiastically states. To reciprocate their trust, he makes sure to put extra effort as he prepares for his parts. “Binabasa ko talaga (‘yung script), para memorized ko na ‘yung linya ko by heart (at) natural na lalabas pati ‘yung acting”. dennis Comfortable and confident in his new role, Dennis says it no longer feels awkward when he throws imaginary power bolts or gets hit by invisible bullets. “Kailangan talaga i-act out naturally kasi doon mo makukuha ‘yung believability ng tao eh”. Loads of twists, surprises and secrets are up in Dennis’s new offering, Super Twins , so make sure to catch him weeknights and see him in a different light. -- Text by Jessa Ericka C. Bien.
