The World Between Us director Dominic Zapata became candid when asked why the show has to take a break after August 27.
During the virtual press conference of the show on August 21, Direk Dom explained that the imposed community quarantine was the major reason the show has to be on a break.
Metro Manila was under enhanced community quarantine from August 6 to 20, and under modified enhanced community quarantine from August 21 to 31.
"Nag-season break kami kasi nagkaroon ng ECQ, and I think first and foremost, safety really comes first," he said.
"We understand that as a network and as people whom the audiences look up to, like sina Alden, si Ms. Jane (Jaclyn Jose), si Ms. D (Dina Bonnevie), we have to show the same kind of responsibility that we expect from each and every Filipino.
"'Pag sinabi po na ECQ at bawal po kayo mag-social gathering, ipa-pack up po 'yung show.
"Second, we also understood that kung ipilit namin ito, we may be sacrificing a little too much in terms of, not only of our health, but also probably the integrity of the show. And that was also a part of the consideration.
"Foremost, really, is everyone's safety. And it wasn't going to be good optics if we continue to do so to the point of sacrificing everyone's safety."
Despite the two-month break, Direk Dom saw it as an opportunity for him and the cast to take a step back and reassess the characters.
He added, "It was also a welcome break for all of us because it was an opportunity for us to take a step back.
"It was a nice break in the story where everyone is going to, maybe the characters would have evolved at this point.
"So as an artist, if I were an actor, I want to be able to be given a chance to step back and reassess how I'm portraying my character because this is an epic story that we're telling."
