Why did Donita pursue the culinary arts?

Aside from being an actress and host, Donita Rose pursued culinary school in 2010 to become a chef which is why she is the perfect choice to lead the new Kapuso capsule show. In the press conference of HeartMate Kitchen, Donita described the struggles and the rewards of being a chef.

Donita revealed that she considers herself a beginner when it comes to being a chef. She said, “I'm sort of just in the beginning stages. I only graduated in 2010, just a few years lang. Pero maipagmamalaki na when it comes to taste, the recipes that I create are very personal to me.”

The recipes that will be shown in HeartMate Kitchen are all crafted by Donita and she also focused on using healthier alternative ingredients in her recipes. “Parang mas naging aware ako sa mga health alternative so definitely one of them is the cooking oil.”

Donita also mentioned the struggles she encountered in becoming a chef. She said, “In the culinary world, it's sort of like a suicide to do what I did because being in the culinary world is a man's job. It's really strenuous work, you're on your feet at least 8 to 9 hours a day. You're carrying heavy things, this is working in a culinary kitchen like restaurants, hotels, and stuff.”

She added that even though she wish to excel, she is not competing with the renowned celebrity chefs.

"I fought the odds even someone at my age na talagang pursigido talaga akong makatapos ako ng culinary and hindi naman ako puwedeng makipag-compete sa mga celebrity chefs today because they've been doing this for a long time."
