Congratulations - you're all set for your first day on your first job! This is the first step towards a great career ahead.

Now, we know that you're experiencing first day jitters. You need to convince everyone you're professional, motivated, efficient and smart. To put it simply, you want to show you're the best person for the job and no one deserves it more than you.

Like most introduction, every first impression begins with appearance so it doesn't quite cut it to prove that you are professional, you also have to look the part.

So, we asked the help of fashion stylist Eldzs Mejia to get you ready for the first day and with flying colors.

Do your homework

Before diving into the corporate world, Eldzs suggests to do your research and find what the dress code is. “Siguro depende rin 'yan sa workplace niyo kung talagang required kayo to look more corporate,” he says.

Some companies have a strict business dress code, while others take a more casual approach. By knowing what the dress code is, the chance of you getting overdressed or underdressed is zero to none.

When in doubt, dress smart

Trends come and go, but a smart attire is everlasting. If you're feeling lost in your quest for a perfect outfit, you can never go wrong with a well-tailored blazer or suit.

Eldzs says, “I think investing in a good suit is always a good idea, 'di ba? You'll never know kung may biglang formal interview ka o may pa formal gatherings sa office ninyo. So it's good to always come prepared.”

Put your personal touch

Even in a professional environment, there's always a room for you to express your personality. Whether its a piece of accessory or choosing a specific color, you can always put your spin to a boring outfit.

“You can play around the prints na or colors kasi marami nang available sa market,” Eldzs suggests. “Kung baga, you're following the rules naman but at the same time, you're kind of breaking it --- 'yun lang ang madali ngayon.

“Don't be boring when it comes to fashion - lalo na kung yuppie ka. I know you want to look your most presentable self, pero 'wag mo namang tanggalin 'yung pagiging bata mo.”

For everything else, go for elegant and classic

Finally, your choice of footwear should be a balance between comfort and elegance. Sneakers are reserved for casual Fridays while stilettos are a definite no. You still have plenty of choices in between like a blocked heel, loafers, and flats for girls while oxfords, brogues, and boots are the best options for boys.

The final pearls of wisdom are related to jewelry. Keep things minimal by choosing elegant and classy pieces. Especially for girls, steer clear of chunky, clunky “statement” pieces and save that for your company party.

Combine everything we've mentioned here and you're now ready for your first day. Hold your head up high and walk with confidence. You've got this!
