They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, but a pair of tired-looking eyes can say a lot more than one intends. The delicate under-eye area is one of the first places that show signs of stress.

Allergies, stress, lack of sleep are common culprits of puffy eye bags. Here's a list of eye bag remedies from Cosmo UK that you can do at home to ease the look of tiredness under your eyes.

1. Cucumbers

Placing chilled, sliced cucumbers over your tired eyes can help de-puff the eyes because of its caffeic acid which restricts blood vessels. Cucumbers also have vitamin C, which helps soothe irritated skin.

2. Cold spoons

A spoon has more use than you think. You can also use spoons for your eyes. Chill a pair of spoons in your refrigerator for a few minutes and place them over your eyes. Do this for 10 minutes to fully relax and let the coldness constrict your blood vessels.

3. Sliced potatoes

Sliced raw potatoes can also be placed over the eyes for 10 minutes to remove under-eye puffiness. Potatoes contain an anti-inflammatory enzyme called catecholase, which can improve bagginess and diminish dark circles.

4. Egg whites

Another remedy for under eye darkness are egg whites which work as a natural astringent to tighten swollen skin. Whisk two whites until they're smooth and gently apply them to your under-eye area. Leave for five to 10 minutes--you might feel a tightening effect, similar to what you experience during a detoxifying mask. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.

5. Green tea bags

Green tea also has anti-inflammatory properties, making it optimal treatment for swelling. The tea's tannins also act as a gentle astringent and its caffeine constricts blood flow that causes puffiness. Soak two teabags in ice water for several minutes, then cover the under-eye area with them; wait for 15 to 20 minutes for best results.

6. Water

Staying hydrated is crucial for helping the body naturally flush out fluids that cause swelling and puffiness. Take a water break as often as needed and always keep a bottle of water with you so you can sip and cool down as you go about your day. Nine to 13 cups of water per day should be enough to keep you hydrated.

There are many simple ways to remove eye bags, but getting enough rest, a good night's sleep, and avoid rubbing your eyes are also helpful ways to prevent the puffiness and darkness of the under-eye area.
