Elijah Alejo says her mom was more concerned about her sexy role. Find out what she told her mom here:
Underage star Elijah Alejo said that she was more concerned about her role as Chynna being iconic than being sexy.
“Natakot po ako kasi 'yong the fact na iconic film siya, na iconic siya, na super sikat siya dati... doon pa lang natakot na ako, e. 'Yong doon sa mga sexy part ang natakot po 'yong nanay ko,” Elijah said in an interview on the Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast.
Elijah added that she's confident about doing the role and she was assured that the series won't be as sexy as the original 1980s film.
Likewise, she recalled assuring her mom,” Sabi ko, 'Ma, hindi naman din po hahayaan ng Sparkle na super magpasexy kami lalo na po at TV 'to.'”
Elijah, however, admitted to being surprised by the difference in her characters between Underage and her role in Prima Donnas as Briana, especially about how they dress.
“Nagka-struggle din ako doon kasi, di ba po, si Briana yong pananamit niya talagang 'yong bata, ganun. Like, hindi talaga siya nagpapa-sexy. Dito kay Chynna parang naninibago kasi, 'Hala, hindi ba ako makikitaan dito?' Nagkakaroon po ako bigla ng mga ganu'ng fear,” she said.
But she was quick to clarify that she's ready to do it since the role needs her to be sexy.
“Hindi na ako si Brianna. Opo for the role, for the show, let's go!”
On her past struggles
On the podcast, Elijah also mentioned that Prima Donnas was a great blessing to her as she and her family were financially struggling at the time. She also revealed that she was the breadwinner of their family since her mom was a cancer survivor and had to rely on her.
She recalls, “Talagang nung wala pong pumapasok sa amin noon na work, ganun talagang iniisip ko na, 'Hala, paano 'to? Paano yung school ko? Paano yung kakainin namin, paano yung gastos, paano yun kasi nagre-rent lang po kami, so paano yung gastusin sa bahay ganiyan.”
“Talagang napakalaking blessing po sa akin ng break ko sa Prima Donnas kasi parang, okay, hindi ko na kailangan masyado isipin yung mga gastusin,” she said.
She added, “Hindi ko na kailangan masyadong isipin yung paano yung ganito, paano yung ganiyan. Paano namin masu-survive yung another month kasi meron na akong regular show.”
For Elijah, she believes in the saying that “experience is the best teacher” as it was what taught her and her co-stars in life.
“Honestly, ang dali lang po magbigay ng advice, ang dali lang po sabihin na you should do this, you should do that when you're in a certain situation. But hindi mo kasi maiisip yung mga 'yun once nandoon ka na sa sitwasyon na 'yon, e,” she added.
