Fashion designer Alexander Wang has denied the sexual assault allegations made against him by several people including a British model named Owen Mooney.
Mooney claimed that Wang groped him while partying at the New York nightclub, Slake, on January 21, 2017.
“He just started touching me up,” the model claimed on TikTok last December.
“It made me freeze completely because I was in so much shock. Then I look to my left to see who it was and it was this really famous fashion designer and I just couldn't believe that he was doing that to me,” Mooney continued.
“It just made me go into even more shock. I just had to slowly move myself away.”
More claims of sexual assault and harassment against the designer surfaced following Mooney's revelation.
The websites Diet Prada and Sh*t Model Management shared Mooney's post.
They also brought to light similar accusations made against Wang on the internet by other individuals but didn't get mainstream media attention.
In a statement posted on Instagram, Wang slammed the allegations by calling them “baseless” and “fabricated.”
He noted that most of the accusations came from “anonymous” sources and were peddled by social media sites that ignore the “importance of evidence.”
Wang went on to thank his supporters for their outpouring of support.
The 37-year-old fashion designer told the New York Times that “he never engaged in the atrocious behavior described and would never conduct myself in the manner that's been alleged.”
He added, “I intend to get to the bottom of this and hold accountable whoever is responsible for originating these claims and viciously spreading them online.”
The Model Alliance, meanwhile, has issued a statement in support of models in light of the controversy.
“Let's be clear: The fashion industry's lack of transparency and accountability leaves all models vulnerable to abuse, regardless of their sex or gender identity,” the group said.
“Aside from acknowledging these allegations against the popular designer, who feels like such a powerful force in fashion, we also encourage anyone who suffers trauma from sexual abuse to speak up -- your voice is being heard and we stand with you -- no one is exempt from being held accountable.”
Born in San Francisco, California, Wang founded his eponymous fashion brand in 2005.
He is known for his dresses and sportswear that carries a '90s touch, as well as for his urban designs and fondness for the color black.
Despite his talent for creating sportswear, Wang is reportedly not a fan of any sports.
Wang is known for throwing lavish parties attended by his celebrity friends and clients including Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber, Travis Scott, Kate Moss, Pamela Anderson, Kanye West, and Kim Kardashian.
