Celebrate Pride Month with Maxie Oh's spectacular comeback in 'Dalaga na si Maxie Oliveros: A Drag Musical Extravaganza,' starring rising drag artist Jamila Rivera.

Maxie Oh is back, and she is ready to steal the spotlight this Pride Month!

Bringing sparkle and passion, the much-awaited sequel to Maxie The Musical, Dalaga na Si Maxie Oliveros: A Drag Musical Extravaganza, returns with rising drag star Jamila Rivera in the lead role.

This magical sequel will celebrate Pride Month with a run from June 13 to 22 at Illumination Studio in Makati City.

Presented by J+ Productions and directed by Melvin Lee, the musical explores stories of queer joy, survival, and transformation.

Carrying on Maxie's story, Jamila feels the excitement and delight of bringing this beloved character's journey to life once again.

"Sobrang saya. It is actually a very big responsibility, pero I am really happy na I have the right community, team, people na matutulungan ako na maihatid 'yung kuwento ni Maxie, mabigyan ng hustisya, at maipagpatuloy at mas mapabongga 'yung buhay na naka-attach sa pangalan ni Maxie," Jamila shared about landing the lead role.

A newcomer to the drag scene, Jamila shared that Maxie Andreison, the winner of Drag Race Philippines Season 3 and the inspiration behind the musical, inspired her to pursue drag.

"Seeing Maxie perform and sing live, I said to myself, this is what I want to do,” she said, hoping to meet Maxie soon.

She also revealed that their stories are very "parallel," saying, "Maxie is in this new musical, is in her new world and she was just introduced in the world of drag."

Jamila added, "Pareho kaming determined. Pareho kaming naghahanap ng place na masasabi naming 'I belong in this place' and ngayon as Jamila, paunti-unti ko siyang nafe-feel, the more I get to know Maxie kasi bawat rehearsal, marami akong natututunan kay Maxie at sa sarili ko."

The rising drag artist also emphasized the relevance of this musical, especially during Pride Month, calling it a must-watch "important piece" about the talented and determined Maxie Oliveros.

"Supported siya ng kanyang pamilya at ng kanyang chosen family and for people to watch this musical, parang what I want na mapaabot sa kanila is that ang mga batang katulad ni Maxie na talented at determined, ang kailangan lang nila ay suporta from their community, sa bahay, para mai-uplift siya," she said.

Uplifting her community this Pride Month, Jamila took a moment to speak out in support of the LGBTQIA+ community. She expressed her hope that society will recognize the need to protect this community, especially because many talented young queer artists still fear expressing themselves due to the persistent presence of discrimination.

Jamila will be joined by some of the Philippines' most celebrated drag artists in the main cast, including Zymba Ding, Corazon, MRS TAN, and Winter Sheason Nicole. Sharing the stage with them are equally gifted actors Jem Manicad, Gerhard Krystoppher, and Gabriel Villaruel.

Completing the powerhouse ensemble are Ado Villanueva, Air Paz, Gerald Magallanes, Honey Bravo, Jay Cortez, Marit Samson, Misha Fabian, and Robert Macaraeg.

The new musical continues the legacy of Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros, the acclaimed 2005 film that first brought Maxie to life on screen.

It was later followed by the 2013 stage hit Maxie the Musical, which offered a vibrant and heartfelt portrayal of the queer coming-of-age journey.
