Former Laguna Governor and action star ER Ejercito announced heartbreaking news early Sunday morning, November 3, that his wife, former Pagsanjan Mayor Girlie “Maita” Javier-Ejercito (more popularly known as Maita Sanchez), passed away at the age of 55 due to endometrial cancer.
According to mayoclinic.org, endometrial cancer is a type of cancer that begins as a growth of cells in the uterus. The uterus is the hollow, pear-shaped pelvic organ where fetal development happens. Endometrial cancer begins in the layer of cells that form the lining of the uterus, called the endometrium. Endometrial cancer is sometimes called uterine cancer.
On his Facebook post, ER also asked everyone for their prayers as their family faces this difficult period in their lives.
“OUR FAMILY IS REQUESTING FOR PRAYERS AND MASS OFFERINGS FOR THE REPOSE OF HER SOUL.
ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO HER O, LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HER. MAY HER SOUL AND THE SOULS OF ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED THROUGH THE MERCY OF GOD REST IN PEACE. AMEN.”
Maita served as mayor of Pagsanjan from 2010 to 2019 and won another three years to serve as vice mayor from 2019 until 2022.
Before pursuing a career in politics, she did a lot of movie projects with the late showbiz icon Fernando Poe, Jr.
