Appearing on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda this Friday, award-winning actor Eric Quizon confirmed his collaboration with Bibeth Orteza for the highly anticipated film project.
Bibeth Orteza authored the 2008 book Dolphy: Hindi Ko Ito Narating Mag-isa, which serves as the definitive account of the legendary King of Comedy's journey.
“I want to. I've been planning with Bibeth Orteza, so I asked Bibeth to, she wrote the book,” Eric shared.
He continued, “Sinabi ko sa kaniya, parang gusto kong encapsulated from the time he was brought to the hospital and until the time that he died.”
The actor emphasized that the film will highlight the family's private struggles, noting how the nation's collective prayers provided them with much-needed strength during their darkest hours.
“Parang marami hindi nakakaalam 'yung ordeal ng family at that time and I think it's a beautiful story because from the time that I asked for prayers, parang nakinig ang buong Pilipinas,” he said.
Eric also fondly recalled the “miraculous” final days of his father, describing how the power of prayer seemed to revitalize the Comedy King during their most precious moments together.
“Parang it was a miracle that whenever I would say that, I would pray, gumagaling siya, dumidilat ang mata, lumalakas siya. So sa family namin, parang it was a great time na we were spending those precious last few days of my dad with us,” Eric expressed.
The actor also shared a lighthearted yet moving memory of his siblings defying standard hospital protocols to serenade their father during his final days at Makati Medical Center.
“Nasa ICU kami, ilan kami? Andami naming magkakapatid, sa ICU isa lang ang allowed. Andoon kami lahat, walang magawa ang Makati Med, nagkakantahan kami. May gitara 'yung mga kapatid ko, walang magawa 'yung mga doktor,” he said.
The legendary Comedy King Dolphy passed away at 83 in 2012 and was laid to rest at Heritage Park in Taguig City.
His son, Eric Quizon, carries on the family legacy as an accomplished actor, director, producer, and writer. Eric's diverse filmography includes notable roles in Soft Hearts, Mano Po, and Crying Ladies.
His artistic excellence earned him the Best Supporting Actor trophy at the 1990 Gawad Urian Awards for his standout performance in Ishmael Bernal's Pahiram ng Isang Umaga.
