Ethel Booba sparked comments from netizens after she reacted to a statement made by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque regarding China giving names to the undersea features in Benham Rise, a plateau located east of the Philippines.
Roque was quoted saying, “For me, we should not be too alarmist on this because China has given names to many things. Siopao, mami, all these were named by the Chinese. Hototay soup, but this did not mean that they owned these."
Ethel reacted by tweeting a joke. She wrote: “Your Chinese name is Gah Go. Charot!”
This sparked more “Chinese names” from netizens who shared Ethel’s sentiments. Read their thread below.

Maybe we should give them all their chinese names. Baka maunahan pa tayo since gusto nila na maging province tayo ng China.
