American singing competition American Idol is set to resume its 18th season after getting suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Katy Perry, one of the show's judges, reveals how they will proceed and carry out the contest.
The latest season of American Idol kicked off on February 16 but it was interrupted as stay-at-home orders were implemented in response to the threat of the new coronavirus disease. The show has finished selecting the top 20 contestants before going on a production break.
To continue with the show, Katy confirms that they will do so via remote performances and judging.
She announces, “How will @AmericanIdol continue? I'll be judging from California,@LionelRichie from LA, @LukeBryan & @mrBobbyBones in Nashville. @RyanSeacrest will host from Cali! Contestants perform at their house! America will VOTE from HOME and choose a WINNER.”
Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie are returning judges along with Katy. Ryan Seacrest has again took on the role of the show's host while Bobby Bones is the show's resident mentor.
This new arrangement is American Idol's first ever at-home remote editions.
