From Isko Moreno to Joseph Estrada to Sonny Angara, condolences pour in as news reports confirm Alfredo Lim's death.
Following the confirmed news reports of the death of former Manila City mayor Alfredo Lim, several politicians have sent their sympathies to the grieving family including Isko Moreno, Joseph Estrada, Senator Sonny Angara, and Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Jr.
On Facebook, Isko Moreno kept it short and sweet as he said goodbye to the Philippines' “Dirty Harry” on Saturday, August 8.
He penned, “Hinding-hindi ka namin lilimutin. Maraming salamat po sa serbisyo sa aming mga Batang Maynila.”
Former president and ex-Manila City mayor Joseph Estrada praised Lim for helping the underprivileged despite being opponents in past elections.
“Naging magkatunggali man kami sa pulitika, alam ko na iisa lang ang aming hangarin,” Estrada wrote.
“Ang magbigay ng magandang buhay ang mahihirap nating mga kababayan, lalo na ang Masang Manilenyo.
“Hinding-hindi ka malilimutan ng Maynila. Rest in Peace, Mayor Lim.”
For his part, Senator Sonny Angara recalled a time when the late Mayor extended a helping hand to his hometown in Aurora.
He wrote, “RIP. I remember back in '04, he was one of a few senators to send relief [goods] when our district in Aurora was battered by successive typhoons.”

Similarly, Presidential spokesman Harry Roque Jr. extended his condolences to Lim's family and supporters. He noted how the ex-Manila Mayor has made a significant contribution to battling “criminality and drugs.”
In a statement released on Facebook, Roque said, “The nation, particularly the City of Manila, remembers Mayor Lim for his tough stance against criminality and drugs. He left a legacy of law and order to his constituents.
“We pray for the repose of his soul as we keep the family of Mayor Lim in our thoughts and prayers during this time of great loss.”
Alfredo Lim served as a senator from 2004 to 2007 and as the Mayor of Manila twice--first from 1992 to 1998, and again from 2007 to 2013.
He also served as a director of the National Bureau of Investigation from 1989 to 1992 and was the secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government from 2000 to 2001.
On Friday, August 7, Mayor Isko Moreno confirmed that Lim has contracted the coronavirus and was confined in a government-run hospital in Manila.
The following day, it was reported by Super Radyo dzBB that Lim had died at exactly 5:41 p.m. He was 90 years old.
The cause of his death has yet to be made public.
