 August Rigo and SHINee Key

Filipino-Canadian singer-songwriter August Rigo is the composer of 'G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time),' one of the B-side tracks in Key's upcoming 'Gasoline' album.

After his collaboration with SHINee's Key in the song "Eighteen (End Of My World)" for the latter's 2021 mini album BAD LOVE, Fil-Canadian artist August Rigo is once again included in the credits of the K-pop idol's second full album Gasoline, this time for the B-side track "G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Time)."

In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, he explained how the song landed a spot on the album.

"For this one, I did it with a producer. His name is David Amber, he's a very versed K-pop producer, he's really amazing musically as well. I tend to do a lot of cataloging with producers. A lot of the time I just build a catalog with producers so I have certain sounds and different subgenres of songs that I can shop to the label.

"My assumption is that Key knows me, but even if he doesn't know me, he likes what I'm doing musically so a lot of the songs that I do are fully done that get translated into Korean. So I think he's able to transfer his sound over my melodies really well, and they always sound amazing. That's how it got chosen. I wrote the song previously and we sent it over to their A&R team, and it got chosen, I got lucky."

In a previous interview, August shared that the English demo for "Eighteen" had a different concept that was completely turned around by Key's Korean lyrics. The same thing happened to "G.O.A.T," whose Korean lyrics were also written by Key and now talk about one's concerns in becoming an adult.

"The initial concept was about having somebody you love and then looking for something better but realizing that you might miss out on the greatest love of all time because you already have something good."

He added, "What I provide for them is melody, structure, and rhythm. Sometimes when I do some of these things remotely, it's hard for me to get inside the artist's head. So if I can transfer melodically a feeling that they can superimpose their identity on, that means I did my job well.

"I gave them the 'Greatest Of All Time' concept, but the lyrical ideas that go with it, some of mine get lost in translation but are found in their translation. It's always interesting to hear the final product."

Born and raised in Canada by Filipino parents, August Rigo is a recording artist, songwriter, producer, and musician. He started his music career in the United States in 2003 and had made songs for Justin Bieber, One Direction, Chris Brown, and other K-pop artists.

Meanwhile, Gasoline is Key's second full album which will be released on Tuesday, August 30, along with the lead single of the same title and its music video. He released his first full solo album FACE in November 2018 and the repackaged version I Wanna Be in March 2019. His first mini album BAD LOVE was released on September 2021.

He debuted as a member of SHINee along with Onew, Jonghyun, Minho, and Taemin on May 25, 2008.
