The Stepdaughters star Gary Estrada told GMANetwork.com in an exclusive interview that he can totally relate with his role as Hernan Salvador in the hit GMA Afternoon Prime soap.
The difference is, in the series, the leading lady Mayumi Dela Rosa (Megan Young) is his stepdaughter after having married her mother Luisa Dela Rosa (Glydel Mercado). However, in real life, “May adopted daughter ako, [and] I have an adopted son.”
The Kapuso star didn’t name his children, but instead shared his experience with adopting kids even before he married his wife, actress Bernadette Allyson. “Mahirap. Unang-una, siyempre, hindi naman talaga kadugo mo. Eventually, alam mong iiwan at iiwan ka nun, ‘di ba,” he divulged.
The actor has known his children since their respective births, instilled values as their foundation, and has been there for them growing up. He added, “Iba ang araw-araw mong kasama, iba ‘yung araw-araw mong papakainin, iba ‘yung hihingi sa iyo ng allowance, siyempre iba pa rin ‘yung dugo noon pero the love is there.”
The good thing is, Bernadette is also supportive of his adopted children, “One big happy family kami. Simpleng buhay, simpleng kaligayahan at iyon ang parati kong ini-instill sa aking anak.”
His daughter is already in third year college, “For me, it’s been fun having my adopted daughter. Nakakatuwa [at] masarap ang pakiramdam na malapit na siyang matapos at hopefully, sana matupad niya [ang] ambisyon niya sa buhay. I will always be there for all the kids that I have.”
Catch Gary as Hernan in the The Stepdaughters, weekdays on GMA Afternoon Prime.
