Despite her feminine appearance, Jelai Andres is one tough chick. And her resilience comes from experiences that made her strong.

'Wag kayong marupok, gayahin ninyo ko,” Jelai said encouragingly.

For Jelai, loving oneself and knowing your worth can give you the strength to avoid being “marupok” or weak.

“Unang-una, tandaan mo, maganda ka. Importante ka,” she said.

She also emphasized the importance of asking for guidance.

“Tapos mag-pray ka na bigyan ka ni God ng tamang desisyon kasi mahirap din kasi mag-desisyon agad-agad. Titimbangin mo.

“Talagang pinag-iisipan 'yan ng mabuti. Ikaw ang nakakaramdam nun."

With all the emotional battles she's faced, the thing that got her through was learning how to take things in stride.

“Dapat laging mag-smile every day, importante 'yun.

“Para laging masaya at siyempre nakakaganda 'yun 'di ba kapag masaya ka? Siyempre kapag negative ka, negative rin 'yung ma-aattract mo kaya dapat lagi lang tayong positive.”

One of the things that's keeping her busy and making her smile these days is her upcoming role as Dorie in GMA Primetime's One of the Baes with Rita Daniela and Ken Chan.

“Excited ako siyempre, sobrang saya,” she narrated.

“Dati lagi akong sitcom or tomboy 'yung role ko.

“Ngayon nakakatuwa kasi gusto ko 'yung role ko rito na parang maldita role."

Jelai is also a self-confessed BoBrey/RitKen fan, which makes her even more excited about having an upcoming primetime show with the onscreen tandem.

“Si Ken Chan at si Rita Daniela nakasama ko na sa Dear Uge.

“Gusto ko maka-work kahit dati pa 'yung Team BoBrey so ngayon masaya kasi kasama ko na sina Ken at Rita.”
