“It started during the first week ng quarantine and I saw our wedding host, si Chuck Araneta, na nagbigay ng coffee. Bumili siya ng mga coffee para dun sa hospitals that he is near.
“Parang dun na-trigger 'yung idea na, 'Oo nga pala! May pinsan nga pala ako at may kaibigan ako na nagtatrabaho dun sa ospital. Why don't I try to contact them?'
At 'yung mga delivery apps naman ngayon is active so I tried it out.”
Sambit ni Juancho, “The reason why I posted it online was because I wanted to encourage other people also to help out in their own little way.
“With that, ang dami kong mga kaibigan na 'sige, tara magpadala tayo ng mga ganito at ganyan.' So doon nagsimula 'yung group of people who are pitching in to this small group that has been buying PPEs.”
“We have the social media department na sina Mikoy [Morales] at Thea [Tolentino] nandun.
“Tapos may logistics, meron kaming finances, so parang eight kami sa group ta's lahat kami tig-da-dalawa per branch and we have been doing our part to coordinate with hospitals, ask them what they need, and then, i-aayon namin 'yung idedeliver namin at bibilhin namin sa mga pangangailangan nila.”
It has been a huge help for me psychologically.”
I mean, kami dito were safe in our home and wala kami sa frontline. Tapos nakikita ko sila na wala silang protection, ginagamit nila 'yung mga plastic and gloves for their feet.
“So it helped me a lot psychologically thinking beyond myself and that goes through.
“Siyempre, I can't speak for my teammates, pero sinabi rin nila sa akin sa meetings namin na ang laki ng natutulong sa kanila nito. It gives them fulfillment and joy also.”
Proud wife
Paliwanag ni Joyce sa GMANetwork.com, “I think more than anything it made me realize something that I already knew about Juancho ---- that he is a very generous person, he's very compassionate.
“Whenever people ask me, 'Bakit sobrang sure ka na kay Juancho kaagad after just a couple of months?' I always tell them that I see him for who he is and what his heart is. And his heart is to put the needs of others before himself.
“The way he responded to this coronavirus pandemic shows just that. He felt that we have a privilege and a certain level of comfortability that I could actually operate in and use to help other people who are not as privileged and not as comfortable as we are.
“And alam mo 'yung parang ang galing lang din, it was a chance for him to lead his friends and to actually be connected with his friends. It was also a chance for him to use his influence, his God-given talent to lead, and his skill because he studied Business 'di ba? So parang nagagamit niya 'yung entrepreneurship degree niya with Relieve PH with the way he handles money.
“At the same time, I have confidence in his honesty and his heart.
“Kasi one of the first things he told me was, I need to post this on social media para may level of transparency. Para alam ng mga tao na 'pag mayroon silang binigay, every centavo goes to the cause of Relieve PH and I feel like 'yun' yung pinakanatutunan ko sa kanya.”
